WORLD CONTRACEPTION DAY 2022: UPDATES ON CONTRACEPTION
On Saturday, 17th September 2022, faculty members from the Department of Community Medicine attended the World Contraception Day workshop held by the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, FFH Rawalpindi. HoD Community Medicine Prof. Naila Azam was invited as a guest, while Assistant Professor Dr. Shumaila Humayun and FCPS II Residents Dr. Fatima Ali Raza Mughal and Dr. Sarah Baksh attended as participants.

The importance of Long Acting Reversible Contraceptives was emphasized upon, along with the need for counselling not just the woman, but her husband as well. Prof. Naila Azam highlighted the necessity of addressing the unmet need for contraception, and for the availability of safe abortions to reduce morbidity and mortality caused by untrained “dais” performing unclean, unsafe abortions for unwanted pregnancies. This holds true under normal circumstance, but especially in times of disaster and crisis, such as the floods currently being faced by our country.
