ADVOCACY AND AWARENESS SEMINAR
WORLD BREASTFEEDING WEEK - 04th AUGUST 2022
On 4th August 2022, faculty members from the Department of Community Medicine attended the Advocacy and Awareness Seminar World Breastfeeding Week via the Nutrition Wing,Ministry of National Health Services, Regulation and Coordination in collaboration with WHO,UNWFP and UNICEF. This includes HoD Community Medicine Brig. Prof. Naila Azam, AssociateProfessor Dr. Tahira Amjad, Assistant Professors Dr. Shumaila Humayun and Dr. Sumaira Masood, Lecturer Dr. Shaista Zulfiqar and FCPS II Residents Dr. Fatima Ali Raza Mughal, Dr. Mariam Razzaq and Dr. Asma Anjum. In panel discussion session, importance of exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of life, continuing up to 2years of life was emphasized upon.
The importance of breastfeeding counsellors, breastfeeding support groups, certified lactation consultants and family members support was highlighted. Religious leaders were also taken on board to explain the religious aspects of breastfeeding. FFH was highlighted as the first hospital in Rawalpindi to begin implementation of BFHI strategies. Prof. Naila Azam was invited to comment upon the matter. She discussed breastfeeding advocacy through training undergraduate students on the importance of breastfeeding. The Department of Community Medicine promotes breastfeeding advocacy by holding Infant and Young Child Feeding workshops for undergraduate students, house Officers and Post-Graduate residents.
