World Breastfeeding Week (WBW) is an annual celebration which is held every year from 1st to 7th August in more than 120 countries, organized by World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA), the World Health Organization (WHO), and UNICEF. World Breastfeeding Week came up with the goal to promote exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of life which yields many health benefits, providing critical nutrients, protection from deadly diseases such as pneumonia and fostering growth and development for the first time in 1991. This year, for 2021, World Breastfeeding Week, WABA has selected the theme: Protect Breastfeeding: A Shared Responsibility. The theme is aligned with thematic area 2 of the WBW-SDG 2030 campaign which highlights the links between breastfeeding and survival, health and wellbeing of women, children and nations.
