PREVENTION IS THE KEY
President Speech at 11th Annual Public Health Conference

On the occasion of 11th Annual Public Health Conference on 23rd September held at Health Services Academy Islamabad, president of Pakistan Dr. Arif Alvi in his speech highlighted the importance of role of prevention towards achieving national goal of healthy population.

He emphasized that continuous underpinning of health education messages against common ailments is the key to reduce problems of high disease burden, shortage of doctors and less spending on health. He also underscored the importance of primary health care workers in removing stigma attached to certain conditions like breast cancer and use of contraception.

This year’s theme for the event, was Contemporary Medicines, Health Technologies and Vaccines for Emerging Public Health Risks.
Subject specialists from within Pakistan, as well as abroad, including Canada and the UK spoke about diverse subjects such as pitfalls of past dengue vaccines, and newer vaccines on the horizon, the impact of modifications of medical education during COVID on public health and the need for a contemporary public health system to battle current and emerging population health risks.
A poster was presented by Assistant Professor of Community medicine department Dr. Shumaila Humayun titled assessment of Knowledge, Attitude And Practices Of Regarding Antibiotic Resistance Among Non-Medical University Students In Rawalpindi. Professor and HOD Dr. Naila Azam, Associate Professor Dr. Tahira Amjad, and FCPS Residents Dr. Fatima Ali Raza Mughal and Dr. Mariam Razzaq also attended the conference.
Faculty from the Deptt. Also attended an in-depth session on the Monitoring and Progress for Health and Nutrition SDGs, chaired by representatives of the moNHSRC.
