PINK RIBBON: BREAST CANCER YOUTH AWARENESS DRIVE FUI-2021
Every year more than forty thousand women of Pakistan die due to breast cancer. This year's FUI awareness drive had different activities from 15th Oct to 1st Nov 2021 organized by the Department of Community Medicine under the guidance of HOD Prof Dr Naila Azam. The main focus was to reach the maximum number of students and the faculty with the message “Breast Cancer! Early detection saves lives”.
FUI Pink Ribbon Team held these activities on both FUI Campuses; FUIC and FURC. The team comprised of focal person FUI/Incharge Event Associate Prof Dr Tahira Amjad Community Medicine, focal persons FUIC (Dr Raima Asif-FUMC, Dr Saima Zafar-FUCD&H, Dr Kanwal Zafar-FUIRS, Senior Lecturer Saima Ishfaq-FUCN) and focal person FURC Ms Dareema Ali. Representative students from all the FUIC institutes participated actively in the organization of the events.
Activities held under the awareness drive were:
a. Pre-Seminar Training Workshop on Self Breast Examination: 1.5 CME hours, organized on 15th Oct 2021 at Community Medicine Department for faculty and focal persons. Participants had hands-on training under the supervision of Incharge workshop Dr Tahira Amjad and facilitator Dr Fouzia Abdus Samad, HOD Oncology Department FFH.
b. FUIC Student’s Awareness Sessions: conducted from 24th to 26th Oct 2021 on Breast Cancer early detection for all the classes of four institutes of FUIC by focal persons and a total of 1243 students were reached out.
c. HEC& Pink Ribbon: Breast Cancer youth awareness Seminar-FURC: 2.5 CME hours, organized at FURC on 1st Nov 2021. 180 female students/ faculty attended the seminar. Dr Saima Ehsan Associate Professor Psychiatry Department FURC graced the event as chief guest. The highlight of the seminar was the practice of Self Breast Examination by all the seminar attendees under the supervision of Dr Rimsha Oncology Department, FFH and all the FUIC Focal Persons.
A donation money of Rs 55000/-( Fifty Five Thousand only) was collected for the construction of Pink Ribbon “ Breast Cancer Hospital, Lahore” which will be the only dedicated hospital for providing free of cost services to the non-affording patients of Breast Cancer. FUI claims that even if a single life is saved from Breast Cancer as a result of these awareness activities, our mission will be accomplished.
