Family Planning for Improving Reproductive Health

Reproductive health not only focuses on health and wellbeing of women but it emphasizes on the role of both men and women as a couple. It is their ability to make voluntary choices and decisions about their lives, including when, or whether, to consider having children.

In this regard, Dr Raima Asif from Department of Community Medicine Foundation University Medical College conducted an awareness session on FUI Radio channel FM 101.8

She talked about benefits of contraceptive methods other than their primary purpose of pregnancy prevention. These methods can also be used to treat many menstrual related symptoms and disorder. She added that contraception reduces pregnancy-related morbidity and mortality, reduces the risk of developing certain reproductive health problems including cancers. She also stressed on advantages of hormonal methods of birth control that they are all highly effective and reversible. Women can always consult a nearby family planning center where the attending personnel help her select the method specific to her condition.
