FCPS / FRCPath Mock Examination Course (Histopathology) was held at FUMC on 30 Nov & 1 Dec 2022 as part of CPD/CME activity in Foundation University Islamabad. It was accredited for 18 contact hours by PMC.
The Mock Examination Course was organized by Professor Brig (R) Tariq Sarfraz, SI (M), Consultant Histopathologist & Head of Pathology Department, Foundation University Medical College, Islamabad.
The organizing committee included Prof Brig (R) Dr. Tariq Sarfraz, SI (M), Col Jawwad Anis Khan (Retd), Dr. Yasmin Wahid, Dr. Saba Aneeqa (Focal person), Dr Ghazala Rustam, Dr Malghalara Khattak and Dr Amna Waheed.
The course was attended by a total number of 30 candidates, including 20 post graduate trainees and 10 consultants. The participants were from different cities of the country, including Rawalpindi / Islamabad, Lahore, Peshawar, Multan and Quetta.
The Mock Examination Course addressed all the contents of FCPS and FRCPath (Histopathology) Examinations, including Histopathology, Cytopathology, Long cases, Frozen sections, Gross specimens and OSPEs.
On the first day of Mock Examination Course (30 Nov 2022), in the first morning session, the participants were given 30 histopathology cases to see, make their diagnoses and report writing. Microscopes were provided to all the participants. After a short tea break, in the second morning session, the candidates were given 05 Frozen Section cases to see and make their diagnosis. Later on, they were presented to the Examiners for viva of Frozen Sections. In the afternoon / evening session after lunch, was the Discussion Session. In the introductory lecture, Professor Brig (R) Tariq Sarfraz, Consultant Histopathologist and Head of Pathology Department discussed the approach to FCPS / FRCPath Examination and enlightened the candidates about the points, which the Examiners are looking. After this introductory lecture, discussion on Histopathology cases and Frozen sections was done.
On the second day (19 May 2022), in the 1st morning session, the candidates were provided with 15 Cytopathology and 05 Long / IHC cases to see and make their diagnoses. In the second session, the candidates were given 05 Gross Specimens to deal with and later on, the candidates were presented to Examiners for Viva. In the afternoon / evening session, after lunch, all the Cytopathology cases, Long / IHC cases and Gross Specimens were discussed in detail. Objective Structured Practical Examinations (OSPEs), which are a part FRCPath (UK) Exam, were also discussed.
The candidates highly appreciated this full dress rehearsal of the actual examination, organized by pathology department in a very comprehensive manner and learnt a lot from this very valuable academic activity. The candidates were told that the CPD / CME Certificates will be sent to their postal address.
The day ended with lots of positive energy, the enthusiasm of gaining more knowledge, working harder and with the prayers that ALLAH Almighty makes us more wise and beneficial for our patients. The participants really liked this academic activity and their feedback was very positive and encouraging for the department.
