REPORT OF BREASTFEEDING SEMINAR
COMMUNITY MEDICINE DEPARTMENT

The Community Medicine Department, Foundation University Medical College, under the leadership of Director Foundation University School of Health Sciences (FUSH) Maj Gen Imran Fazal HI (M) Retd organized an awareness seminar on Step up breastfeeding: Educate and Support, on 19th August, 2022. Nutrition Wing-Ministry of National Health Services Regulation and Coordination MoNHSRC and UNICEF provided their support for this seminar.
The seminar began with recitation from The Holy Quran. Dr. Shumaila Humayun Asst prof Community Medicine department formally inaugurated the session and invited Brig Naila Azam HOD community medicine for her welcoming address. This was followed by presentations by Dr. Asma Anjum PGT Community Medicine and Huzaifa Kamran Khan, 4th year MBBS student, highlighting benefits of breastmilk for mothers and babies. Brig Dr. Munir Lodhi and Dr. Azra Saeed, HOD Pediatric and Obstetric departments Fauji foundation hospital (FFH) respectively, highlighted that their doctors are very proactive for ensuring optimal breastfeeding practices at FFH. The chief guest Major General Abeera Choudhry, HOD Gynae/Obs department Pak Emirates Military Hospital, Rawalpindi, emphasized that by building trust with each other and community, we can underpin the pursuit of excellence in our services in all aspects of health.
Brig Prof Naila Azam, HOD community medicine and Director Maj Gen Imran Fazal thanked the worthy guest especially Dr. Baseer Khan Achakzai –Director Health Programs & Nutrition, MoNHSR, Dr. Khawaja Masuood Ahmed National Coordinator Nutrition & NFA, MoNHSR, Islamabad and UNICEF representative Dr.Saba Sujah who shared national and international efforts for addressing malnutrition by promoting breastfeeding.
Closing remarks were given by Director FUI Maj Gen Imran Fazal. Director appreciated the efforts put in by students and faculty of Community Medicine. In the end, chief guest distributed Souvenirs to worthy organizers and presenters.
