Foundation University College of Physical Therapy

Foundation University College of Physical Therapy (FUCP) takes pride in offering comprehensive programs designed to cultivate highly skilled and professional physical therapists. Our flagship program is the 5-year professional Bachelor's degree program of Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT), which provides students with a solid foundation in physical therapy principles and practices.

In addition to the DPT program, FUCP offers a range of postgraduate opportunities to further enhance the expertise of our graduates. Our 2-year Postgraduate degree of MS Musculoskeletal Physical Therapy (MSPT-MSK), Neurological Physical Therapy (MSPT-NPT), and Cardiopulmonary Physical Therapy (MSPT-CPT). These programs provide in-depth exploration of specialized areas within physical therapy.

Furthermore, FUCP is committed to ongoing growth and innovation in our academic offerings. We are currently planning to introduce additional postgraduate courses in Women's Health, Sports Physical Therapy, and other specialized areas. Additionally, we are excited to announce the upcoming launch of a Ph.D. program in Rehabilitation Sciences, further advancing our mission to contribute to the advancement of knowledge and practice in the field of physical therapy.

Clinical Setting

At Foundation University College of Physical Therapy (FUCP), we take pride in providing our students with unparalleled clinical training opportunities to complement their academic learning. Our students have the privilege of receiving hands-on experience at Fauji Foundation Hospital Rawalpindi, an esteemed 850-bed tertiary care hospital affiliated with Foundation University Islamabad.

Fauji Foundation Hospital, offering both outpatient and inpatient services. Additionally, the hospital is home to one of the largest and most renowned Artificial Limb Centers (ALC) in the country. With cutting-edge technology and expertise, the ALC develops over 7000 artificial limbs and supporting orthoses annually.

The indigenous clinical and research laboratory of Foundation University College of Physical Therapy (FUCP) is equipped with the latest & state-of-the-art technological equipment for patient care and advanced clinical research such as anti-gravity treadmill, gadgets like virtual reality, dynamic post urography and marker less gait and running analysis.

At FUCP, we are dedicated to providing our students with a comprehensive and immersive learning experience that prepares them to excel in their careers as physical therapists.

At FUCP, our Faculty of Rehabilitation Sciences comprises highly qualified and esteemed professionals, each specialized in various domains of rehabilitation sciences. In our pursuit of academic excellence and global engagement, Foundation University Institute of Rehabilitation Sciences has established international collaborations, including a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the University of Hasselt in Belgium and Oklahoma USA. This collaboration serves as a valuable platform for strengthening academic and research ties between FUI, UHasselt and Oklahoma. Through faculty and student exchange programs, joint research projects, and resource sharing initiatives, this partnership offers invaluable opportunities for enhancing learning and research experiences. Already, this collaboration has yielded positive outcomes, including the joint success in securing an Erasmus+ international grant for faculty and student mobility, facilitating training opportunities in Belgium and Oklahoma. 

Research Ventures 

Research and scholarly endeavours are integral components of Foundation University College of Physical Therapy's (FUCP). Over the years, our faculty members have demonstrated excellence in securing research grants, totalling more than 8 million rupees, from esteemed institutions such as the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and Foundation University. These grants have supported a variety of research projects aimed at addressing key challenges and advancing knowledge in the field.

Moreover, our faculty and students have showcased their research findings at numerous national and international forums and conferences, where they have delivered keynote speeches and presented research papers.

In addition to conference participation, Foundation University College of Physical Therapy has taken proactive steps to foster a culture of research excellence. We have successfully organized four national and international conferences, providing platforms for scholars and practitioners to exchange ideas, collaborate on research initiatives, and advance the frontiers of knowledge in our field.

Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT)

Physical Therapy is an integral part of modern health care system. It is a “science of healing and art of caring”. It includes the examination, evaluation, assessment, diagnosis and treatment of Musculoskeletal, Neurological, Cardio-Vascular and Respiratory systems etc. Physical therapy also means the treatment of any pain, disease, or injury by physical means. A physical therapist seeks to identify and maximize quality of life and movement potential through prevention, intervention (treatment), promotion, habilitation, and rehabilitation.

Goals of the Programme

The purpose of the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) programme is to prepare Physical Therapists who will:

Be primary providers of physical therapy care.

Serve as responsible members in the professional community and are willing and able to assume leadership roles in the communities they serve.

Identify researchable problems, advocate and participate in research, and incorporate research findings into clinical practice.

Understand and place in context the social, economic and cultural issues of practice and effectively advocate for changes in policy.

Correlate theory with practice and think creatively about, react to, adapt or shape new practice environments.

Participate in and provide education for communities, patients, peers, students and others.

Objectives of the Programme

Graduates of the Doctor of Physical Therapy programme will

Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of the basic and clinical sciences relevant to physical therapy, both in their fundamental context and in their application to the discipline of physical therapy.

Understand, correlate and apply theoretical foundations of knowledge to the practice of physical therapy; evaluate and clarify new or evolving theory relevant to physical therapy.

Demonstrate the behaviours of the scholarly clinician by developing and utilizing the process of critical thinking and inquiry, particularly focused on the improvement of the practice of physical therapy and the delivery of health care.

Engage in reflective practice through sound clinical decision making, critical self-assessment and commitment to lifelong learning.

Demonstrate mastery of entry level professional clinical skills. Provision of these services is based on the best available evidence and includes physical therapy examination, evaluation, diagnosis, prognosis, intervention, prevention activities, wellness initiatives and appropriate health care utilization.

Prepared to influence the development of human health care regulations and policies that are consistent with the needs of the patient and of the society.

Demonstrate leadership, management, and communication skills to effectively participate in physical therapy practice and the health care team.

Incorporate and demonstrate positive attitudes and behaviours to all persons.

Demonstrate the professional and social skills to adapt to changing Health care environments to effectively provide physical therapy care.

Assessment Criteria

Sessional Exam after 8 weeks

Final Semester Exam after 18 weeks

a) Theory paper : 50-100 MCQs & SEQs: Marks =50- 100

b) Duration of paper : 1- 2 hours

Assessment Criteria:

a) Assignments: 10%

b) Sessional Exam: 30%

c) Final Exam : 40 %

d) Viva & practical(Clinical Exam): 20 %

DPT Admission Requirements

Admission in Foundation University College of Physical Therapy (FUCP) is open to all students irrespective of sex, religion, color, creed, class and domicile who are academically qualified for admission to the courses of study offered by the college.

The admission is offered strictly on the basis of merit determined by the university as per the admission criteria.

 Admission Criteria

  • FSC (Pre-Medical, 60% minimum marks)
  • IBCC Equivalence for foreign education system (A-Level/12th Grade) with minimim 60% marks
  • Incomplete/late applications will not be considered
  • Verified Hafiz-e-Quran shall get credit according the Government Admission policy.
  • The decision of the Admission Committee is irrevocable and final. The authorities are not bound to explain the reasons for their decisions to the applicants, their parents or guardian.

Prerequisites for Pakistani Candidates:-

F.Sc (Pre-Medical Group/A Level/Equivalent) securing at least 60% (unadjusted) marks.

Prerequisites for Overseas Candidates

  • 8 x candidates to be admitted in expatriate/foreigner category

Who can Apply:

  • Foreigners and Pakistanis having dual nationality / resident status of a foreign country.
  • Pakistani students who studies abroad for and have passed pre-medical F.Sc / HSSC/Intermediate with minimum 60% marks.

 Eligibility for admission on foreign /expatriate seats is as follow:-

  • Foreigners and Pakistani National who have passed examination equivalent to F.Sc from a foreign university/examination body / education system with three science subjects out of which Biology and Chemistry are essential subjects with 60% marks in aggregate as certified by IBCC, Islamabad.
  • IBCC equivalence certificate (Photocopy) must be attached with the application form. In case if the equivalence certification is not submitted before the commencement of the classes, the admission of the student/applicant will be considered cancelled.

The students will be selected on merit basis in the following categories:-

Entry Test Details

Entry Test will be Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) based containing 50 MCQs of Total 50 Marks. There will be no Negative Marking and applicants will be given a time period of 1 hour to answer 50 MCQs. Following are the Detailed Division of Total MCQs

The final Selection is strictly based on Merit as per of following selection Criteria:

REFUND OF FEE POLICY

  1. Admission Fee shall not be Refunded in Any Case.
  2. Tuition Fee will be refunded as per following details:-
  1. If a student wishes to leave the institution up to 7th day of convene of classes (100% refund).
  2. If a student wishes to leave the institution from 8th to 15th day of convene of classes (50% refund).
  3.  If a student wishes to leave the institution from 16th day of convene of classes. (No Refund, only refundable security will be refunded after the admissible deductions).

FEE CHALLAN ISSUANCE
& DELIVERY POLICY - DPT (2nd to 10th Semester)

  1. Fee Challans are issued and handed over to the students after obtaining acknowledgment (signature) from each student.
  2. Incase if a student "Did Not Received the Fee Challan", he / she must approach Accounts Branch - FUSH or email at (account_fumc@fui.edu.pk) for issuance of duplicate Fee Challan for timely payment of fee.

If the fee is delayed beyond the due date then:-

  1. 1% surcharge per month would apply after the due date.

IMPORTANT NOTE:-

  1. In case of non- payment of fee after Two Months of Due Date, the students will not be allowed to attend classes.

Students will not be allowed to appear in the final term examination if the "Fee along with Surcharge is Not Deposited before 30 Days" of Final Term Examination.

APPLICATION FOR FEE IN INSTALLMENT POLICY
DPT (2nd to 10th Semester)

Needy students may apply for Fee payment in installment on the prescribed form. Applications to be submitted to the Director Campus through "Students Affairs Department at-least "4 week Prior to the Due Date" for fee deposit..

IMPORTANT NOTE:-

No application will be entertained "After the Due Date" of the Fee Challan.

DEPOSIT OF FEE IN INSTALLMENT POLICY
DPT (2nd to 10th Semester)

If the application for the Fee Payments in installments is "Approved by the Competent Authority", the student may be allowed to deposit the "Fee in 2 instalments":-

  1. 1st instalment (50% of the Fee Payable by Due Date).
  2. 2nd instalment (Balance amount of the fee payable after 2 Months of the 1st installment Due Date).

IMPORTANT NOTE:-

Deferred Payment Charges of 1% of the amount due would be applicable for fee payment in installments.

REFUND OF HOSTEL DUES POLICY
(BOYS' & GIRLS' HOSTELS)

  1. The boarders must inform warden hostels / warden girls' hostels "At-least One Month" prior to his / her tentative vacation.
  2. The occupant will be charged for the "Duration of Stay" only.
  3. In case the occupant has to vacate in the "Middle of the Semester", following criteria will be followed:-
  1. The boarder will be charged for the "Months of Stay" only

If any occupant leaves during the month and vacates "Before 15th of the Month" then half-month charges will be levied and if boarder vacates "After 15th of the Month" then charges for the full month may be charges.

CLINICAL / EXAMINATION CHARGES POLICY

  1. Per Semester Examination Fee will be collected separately from the students along with the fee.

REFUND OF SECURITY POLICY

Students may apply for the refund of security deposit on the prescribed form fully completed. Application for the "Refund of Security to be submitted in the Campus Accounts Department". After verification Campus Accounts Department will adjust any outstanding dues, obtain approval and process for the Refund of payment.

MEDICAL TREATMENT POLICY

  1. Only Outdoor Medical Treatment (OPD) facility is admissible for students.
  2.  However, in case of any "Indoor Medical Treatment", the student will be charged in accordance with the availed facility.

The fee may be deposited in the following branches of Askari Commercial Bank Limited. However, if the fee is deposited either online or in any other Askari Bank Branch, the scanned copy of paid deposit slip must be emailed at (account_fumc@fui.edu.pk) or submitted in Accounts Counter - Student Hub / Accounts Branch - FUSH.
